Process Piping Fabrication & Installation

Mueller Water designs, fabricates, and installs process and utility piping in carbon steel, stainless steel, and thermoplastic materials for water-treatment, boiler-feed, and industrial process applications. Pipe spools are shop-fabricated at the Houston facility with certified welds — X-ray-qualified piping available on request — and installed by Texas-licensed crews across Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Process piping is the connective tissue of every water-treatment and industrial-process system Mueller Water builds. It moves softened, deionized, reverse-osmosis, boiler-feed, and process water through plants and facilities at the pressures and temperatures the process requires, and the materials and welds have to match the chemistry of the fluid. Mueller Water has fabricated and installed process piping for Texas industrial clients since 1969 — out of the same Houston shop that builds our pressure vessels and skids.

Materials We Fabricate

  • Carbon steel: Process and utility piping for boiler feed, condensate, steam, and general industrial service where chemistry permits.
  • Stainless steel: 304 and 316 for sanitary, high-purity, and corrosive service — pharmaceutical, food and beverage, semiconductor, and high-purity water distribution. Specialty alloys available for elevated temperatures and aggressive fluids.
  • Thermoplastic (PVC, CPVC, HDPE, PP): Chemical-resistance and corrosion-protection applications, lightweight installations, and lines that would attack metallic piping. Joined by heat fusion, electrofusion, or solvent welding as the system requires.

Welding & Fusion

Metallic piping is joined by certified welders using TIG, MIG/wire, or stick processes, selected for the material, wall thickness, and service condition. X-ray-qualified piping is available on request for projects that require radiographic inspection. Thermoplastic piping is joined by heat fusion, electrofusion, or solvent welding — whichever produces the secure, leak-free joint the system needs.

Pipe-Spool Fabrication

Pipe spools are fabricated to drawing at our Houston shop and delivered to site for field installation. Spool fabrication compresses field schedules, controls weld quality in a shop environment, and shortens the on-site work window — which matters for shutdowns, tie-ins, and projects in occupied facilities where field welding time is expensive or restricted.

Testing & Inspection

  • Hydrostatic testing of completed piping systems.
  • Leak testing for service-condition verification.
  • X-ray inspection available for metallic piping where the specification or code requires it.
  • Pressure-test documentation turned over with the system.

Licensed Installation

Process piping that ties into commercial plumbing systems in Texas must be installed under a licensed plumber. Mueller Water's installation work is performed under a Texas Responsible Master Plumber (David Mueller, License No. M-13897), so the same crew that fabricates pipe spools in the shop can install them on-site under license — without coordinating a separate plumbing trade onto the same job.

Industries Served

  • Refineries & petrochemical — process and utility piping for plants along the Houston Ship Channel and across the Texas Gulf Coast.
  • Healthcare & life sciences — sanitary stainless piping for hospitals, dialysis, sterile processing, and biotech.
  • Semiconductor & electronics — ultrapure water distribution and stainless process piping for fabs and their suppliers.
  • Food & beverage — sanitary stainless piping and CIP support for breweries, distilleries, dairies, and food manufacturers.
  • Aerospace & defense — process and high-purity water piping for aerospace MRO and DoD installations.
  • Data centers — make-up, humidification, and cooling-loop piping for hyperscale and colocation facilities.
  • Power & energy — boiler-feed, condensate, and cooling piping for power generation and energy facilities.

Process Piping in Each of Our Texas Service Areas

Field crews and licensed installers cover the full Texas Triangle. Each branch has a dedicated commercial plumbing & process piping page with city-specific industries and coverage:

Frequently Asked Questions

What process piping materials does Mueller Water fabricate?
Mueller Water fabricates and installs carbon steel, stainless steel (304/316 and specialty alloys), and thermoplastic piping (PVC, CPVC, HDPE, and PP) for water treatment, boiler-feed, chemical-process, and high-purity applications across Texas.
Does Mueller Water provide X-ray-qualified piping?
Yes. X-ray-qualified piping is available on request for projects that require radiographic inspection of welds. Mueller Water also performs hydrostatic and leak testing on completed piping systems.
Where is Mueller Water's pipe-fabrication shop located?
Mueller Water's primary pipe-fabrication facility is at its Houston headquarters at 1500 Sherwood Forest Street. Pipe spools, structural skids, and pressure vessels for projects across the Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas/Fort Worth service areas are shop-built here and delivered for field installation.
Can Mueller Water both fabricate and install process piping?
Yes. The same licensed and certified crew that fabricates pipe spools and skids also installs them on-site. Plumbing work is performed under a Texas Responsible Master Plumber, and welding is performed by certified welders so that fabrication and field installation are not split between separate trades.
