Activated Carbon Filtration Systems & Commercial Water Filters

Mueller Water designs, builds, and services activated carbon filtration systems, multi-media filters, sediment filters, and manganese-greensand iron filters for commercial and industrial water treatment across Texas. Activated carbon strips chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, and taste-and-odor contaminants; multi-media handles suspended solids and turbidity; greensand removes iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide.

Mueller Water sizes and builds activated carbon filtration systems and commercial activated carbon water filters for industrial pretreatment, potable-water polishing, foodservice, and process-water applications. Activated carbon strips chlorine, chloramine, volatile organics, and taste-and-odor compounds — the same contaminants that foul reverse-osmosis membranes, throw off product flavor, and trigger chlorine-sensitive downstream processes. Mueller Water has engineered media filtration for Texas commercial and industrial clients since 1969.

Our filtration offerings include Sand Filtration for capturing suspended solids, Activated Carbon Filtration to adsorb chlorine, chloramine, and organic contaminants, and Multi-Media Filtration for high-turbidity feed and RO pre-treatment. We also build specialized Manganese Greensand and Iron Filtration systems to remove iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide that cause staining, odors, and scale.

For fine particulate removal, our Bag Filtration and Cartridge Filtration options offer consistent performance with minimal maintenance, suitable for any application.

With Mueller Water, you're choosing the highest standard in water treatment, ensuring superior water quality that safeguards your health and enhances your daily life. Trust our expertise to deliver the pure, clean water you deserve.

Multimedia Filter Configurations

A multimedia filter (also called a multi-layer or mixed-media filtration system) stacks media of decreasing particle size and increasing density so water is filtered progressively through the bed depth rather than only at the surface. Compared with a single-media sand filter, a multi-layer bed captures finer particles, holds far more dirt before backwash, and runs longer between cleanings. The table below compares the three common bed configurations.

ConfigurationMedia layersFiltration performanceTypical use
Single-mediaOne layer (fine silica sand)Surface straining; removes coarser suspended solids (~20–40 micron)Simple sediment removal and polishing on low-turbidity water
Dual-mediaAnthracite over sandDepth filtration; finer particles and longer filter runsMost municipal and industrial clarification duty
Multimedia / mixed-media (tri-media)Anthracite + sand + garnetGraded depth filtration to ~10–15 micron; highest dirt-holding capacityHigh-turbidity feed and reverse-osmosis pre-treatment
